choice. take a look at this shot. hundreds if not thousands it of people waited outside as early as 4:00 a.m. the ray rice jersey was the 28th best selling jersey last year. they released rice after a video surfaced of him knocking out his then fiance jenay palmer. to minutes of nonstop news continues with local connections to this exconvict. police say he murdered his daughter and six grand children in florida before then killing himself. nbc 10 brought you this family massacre story from bell, florida as breaking news last night at 11:00. >> nbc 10's ted greenberg has been examining the shooter's new jersey connections. >> what have you learned. >> reporter: keith and ra yay, i talked with a family member less than an hour ago. donald spirit grew up in this hampton county community. his mother and sister-in-law are still here. as you can imagine, they are in

absolute shock. >> he loved his grandchildren. he loved them. this is something i cannot even explain. i don't have no explanation for this. i don't know what to say. >> reporter: a day after the massacre in bell, florida, stacey spirit can't comprehend why her 51-year-old brother-in-law donald spirit, would kill six of his grand children, his daughter and then himself. spirit was the oldest of eight children. they're natives of camden county, several relatives still live in south jersey. stacey told me she last spoke with donald about a week ago. >> any warning signs that this was coming? >> no, no, none at all. not at all. his mother is beside herself. it's hard. it's very hard. >> reporter: stacey spirit says donald was last here last year. she described that visit as wonderful.ç live in lindenwold, i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. nbc 10 news were in the air and on the ground overnight as a

warehouse erupted into an inferno. >> three people were injured in this fire in west kensington, including two firefighters. we're asking about what started the fire. cydney long live on the scene this afternoon. >> what's the latest, what do you know? >> keith and renee, all indications are that someone had access to that vacant building early this morning. you can see right now it is a complete loss as fire crews are out here continued to saturate this site full of rubble. they tell us there are still little fires burning underneath. exactly who or what caused the fire to ignite, it could take days to determine. the fire marshall does want to interview that person that was running from that scene here this morning. massive blaze that lit up the night sky over 29400 block of american street took an hour and a half to extinguish with some 120 fire personnel and 33 pieces of equipment.

winds helped to fuel those flames. it was also fueled by the paper inside of that operational business. the intense smoke forced the closure of two area k through 8 schools, william mckinley and john welsh. those students were turn back and sent home. today, the fire department continued to put out the smoldering hot spots and l & i delivered an excavator to the site to bring down some of the walls. it will have to be completely extinguished and structurally sound before investigators can zero in on a cause. residents have theories of their own. >> as i looked at it there were bloody footprints. >> what does it say to you? >> whoever did that got cut, trying to get out, probably a crack head or something was inside a budding, burned the thing down, came out running. >> the philadelphia fire commissioner's office tells me both firefighters who were injured are feeling well, they

did suffer minor injuries and were treated and released from the hospital. we are asking the mayor's office how many vacant buildings exist in philadelphia and what they're doing to keep them secure. we'll have that part of the story coming up at 4:30. live in kensington, i'm sidly long, nbc 10 news. happening now an all-out search for the man wanted for ambushing two pennsylvania state troopers one week ago tonight, killing one of them. hundreds of digital billboards in pennsylvania and in five other states show the man they're trying to track down. eric frein is on the fbi's ten most wanted list. community in northwestern pennsylvania remain on edge as the police search for frein. >> liu ann cahn, have police learned anything new about the suspect or his whereabouts.

>> reporter: this such has been going on for seven days. this is the first day there has not been a police press conference. police were in the neighborhood behind me. this is the neighborhood where eric frein grew up. >> it was scary. i couldn't get home last night because they had the commune in the lockdown. >> just moments later, shirley abuso's barrett township neighborhood was under lockdown again. they came back with dogs and lined the street for renewed search. they're going back over the area where they received a tip last night that someone spotted 31-year-old eric frein. >> do you think he's still around? in. >> debatable, being an expert on the outdoors, he's also a survivalist. he could very well be sitting right there. >> reporter: he didn't want to give me his name but said he's known frein since he was 10 years old. he said it seems unreal that the quiet kid from around the corner is now on the fbi's most wanted

details we'll pass them along to you. to this now, president barack obama calls the problem of sexual assault on college campuses an affront to our basic humanity. the president and vice president unveiled a new campaign to change the way people think about it. >> take the pledge. >> it's on us, all of us. >> before it happened. >> do not blame the victim. >> it includes a public service announcement you just saw featuring the president, the vice president, other celebrities telling viewers they have a responsibility to stop sexual assault. it encourages people on campus to make sure friends are safe and to interview before an assault happens. the president says the campaign is sorely needed. >> sports league to pop culture to politics, our society still does not sufficiently value women. we still don't condemn sexual sa salt as loudly as we should. we make excuses, look the other way.

the message that sends can have a chilling effect on other women. >> they have partnered with the ncaa, student leaders at colleges and a variety of businesses. in the meantime, crime concerns lead to controversy on a local campus. >> students say college leaders just aren't doing enough. nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter tim furlong live at the university of delaware in newark. >> tim, why are the students staging their protest there? >> this really isn't about criminal allegations or sexual harassment allegations specifically. many of the students and faculty members are upset because they think the university needs to be much more transparent when a serious concern is raised by a tune. yes, there was one specific case that got people here fired up. >> he asked her for sexual favor in exchange for an "a." >> reporter: this doctor says she has worked closely with a former u of d student in a case against professor eric tramby. tramby is no longer teaches classes here.

dr. leon thinks she and the accuser have a right to know how it all ended. >> we were no longer involved in what happened. we were no longer informed. >> reporter: in the last couple days, the student newspaper covered the story and hinted 9 university is trying to keep the case low key. the school denied that in an e-mail to all students. the school followed its own policies to the letter. there was no cover-up or hiding the case. he said they couldn't and still can't discuss tramby's case. >> i understand the concerns about institutional silence but there is an important distinction to be made between observing your policies, protecting people's privacy as part of the process and sweeping things under the rug as an institution. >> reporter: and back live on the u of d campus in newark, i did try unsuccessfully to:í>ñ r eric tramby. i wanted to get his side of the story. there are no criminal charges involved here. the only thing the school will

say is he's no longer teaching here. live in newark, tim furlong, nbc 10 news. thank you, çtim. from sky force 10, damage at a dunkin' donuts. a winslow township police car slams into the building after colliding with another car. the officer suffered minor injuries, no one else was hurt but it is safe to say, it certainly startled everyone in the store. philadelphia police are looking for two suspects who robbed a georgia's pizza in oh, ford circle. they were last seen on oxford near roosevelt boulevard. from our delaware bureau, a lewis woman was arrested for allegedly driving drunk for the fourth time in five years. state police say jeanne steiner veered off the road. steiner was treated for

nonlife-threatening injuries and then taking into custody at the women's correctional institute in new castle. police in new castle county are warning residents about attempted break-ins in okessin. in both cases they got away with nothing. police say your best offense here is to keep your windows, your doors locked and call them if you see anything suspicious. new developments in the u.s. effort to stop isis. the pentagon warned today it could take at least a year to get a ground war going against isis in its home base of syria. >> france became the first coalition nation beside the u.s. to launch air strikes on isis. nbc 10 national correspondent steve handelsman has the details from washington. two jets took off from the french base near dubai, refuelled in midair and bombed isis ammo and fuel depots in northern iraq. the first air strikes by another

coalition nation. france opposed the iraq war in 2003. today the french join the u.s. in the war on isis. >> they're saying this one is okay, guys, this time around, we believe in what is being done. >> despite secretary of state kerry's efforts today at the united nations to get more nations to do more, two big u.s. allies have refused to conduct missions or send troops. >> they have to be a nato ally but they don't behave like an ally. >> the saudis stick their toe in the water but they're not all in yet. >> moderate syrian rebels that congress voted last night to support cannot fight isis until late next year. first they have to be assembled and each approved, three to five months. >> there will be a period of 8 to 12 months of actual training and feeding. it will be a little while. >> by then, could isis launch attacks on the u.s. homeland.

to ever hit baja and now this one is going to miss to the west. now everybody's evacuating. all right. we have cloudy skies across part of the areas. we have temperatures that have been low but it will be a warmer likely to hit before the weekend is out, followed by a dry stretch by perhaps the end of next week, we'll be talking about how we need rain. right now there isn't any rain around despite the clouds. we have that east wind, keeping the temperature down. 71 degrees, humidity 51%. and we continue to be in the 60s in parts of the area. look at that, 66 in mt. holly, 65 in tron ten. 68 in millville. a lot of places in the 60s this afternoon, some with the clouds. you can see in new jersey, burlington county getting quite a bit of that. even with sunshine, the

temperatures are down because of that wind coming in off the ocean. it's gusting up to 30 miles an hour. the only showers we see are down in delmarva. the next batch of showers way up near the canadian border near wisconsin. that will take a while to get here. we could see a couple of sprinkles coming in with that east flow overnight tonight and also again tomorrow night. but the main threat of showers comes later on sunday. watch what i'm talking about here. again, just some isolated light showers possible early. here comes the front. here come the showers. here's 8:00 sunday night and it's still just getting into the area. the best chance of any rain this weekend is after 6:00 or 7:00 sunday night. looks like it would most likely be dry for the eagles and then as we go into monday, it dries out.

well, for temple, pretty nice weather. warmer, high temperature up to 79 degrees and probably dry. the eagles, warmer than that on sunday afternoon. up to 84 degrees and a little bit of humidity. not exactly football weather. for tonight, we see mostly cloudy skies. not quite as cool as it's been the last couple of nights. tomorrow makes the clouds and sun, significantly warmer day. highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. and then 84 degrees on sunday. summer officially ends monday evening. there goes the temperatures back down into the low 70s. watch what happens as we go through the week. we're talking about temperatures well below average. but also, a dry period. there will be a system to the south. if it stays south, we probably

this is nbc 10 news. >> right now at 4:30, nbc 10 cameras were there as the wall collapsed during an early morning warehouse inferno. in philadelphia's west kensington neighborhood. two firefighters and another person was injured. >> they believe the fire started at a neighboring property which was vabt. s cydney long joins us again. >> reporter: in the city of philadelphia, back in 2011 we know there were as many as 25,000 vacant or abandoned structures like this one. but we also learned that a majority of them were homes. now today the mayor's office tells me that only 360 vacant structures, large warehouse structures lake this one exist in the city of philadelphia

right now. greater than 5,000 square feet. but the onus falls on the security owner to secure and protect them. it was a massive fire, spread quickly by winds from a vacant building to a paper business next door that fire crews had no choice but to tacking by means of an exterior attack. >> we do a risk assessment on every fire where we determine if there's no life hazard. >> reporter: fire officials confirmed someone suffered burns over 80% of his body. that individual remains in critical condition at temple university hospital and with one business destroyed and two kensington schools shut down for the day -- >> this ain't nothing but another burnt empty building taking up space for where people could actually build something, create jobs for this neighborhood. >> reporter: we ask the mayor's office if it's a persistent

problem in the city, homeless or squatters, finding their way into an abandoned or unoccupyie building. >> reporter: they confirm they along with the fire department do routinely check vacant buildings. this one last secured in early march. >> it was sealed. it was vacant and there was no structural damage evident. >> reporter: still unclear if something changed between march and early this morning. back out here, still a very active scene. fire crews continue to saturate the rubble. they are moving debris to get to the small fires underneath.ç we are told the mifire marshall cannot access the site until it is secured. this particular building had gone into sheriff's sale with the city.

live in kensington, cydney long, nbc 10 news. >> thank you, sydney. a 13-year-old boy is charged with raping an 8-year-old girl. the victim's family contacted them last month and the teenage suspect turned him inself in yesterday. he's being held in a juvenile facility. two burlington county men are charged in the baseball bat attack of two gas station attendants during a robbery last year. dwayne labrew and johnson were taken into custody. it happened last october at the citgo station at levitt parkway. nfl commissioner roger goodell speaks out about the scandaled that have rocked the league. this afternoon he says the league was taking immediate action to prevent future problems. the nfl is also partnering with two domestic violence prevention groups.

we have new information about yesterday's family massacre in florida. police say donald spirit murdered his daughter and six grandchildren, then killed himself. today we learned spirit grew up in camden county and some of his relatives still live there. his sister-in-law tells nbc 10 she's shocked and can't explain what happened. the massive manhunt continues for the suspected gunman who killed a pennsylvania state troop and injured another. it's been one week since freese say eric frein ambushed the two troopers at the barracks in blooming grove. a protest at the university of delaware over a campus controversy. a former student says professor eric tramby asked her for sexual favors in exchange for an "a." tramby is no longer teaching classes but some students, professors say, the university

this is nbc 10 news. a new jersey lawmaker wants to make it a crime to put a gps tracking device on a car without the owner's approval. assembly minority leader john bramnick says he didn't know it was legal until he got a call from a constituent. he said there would be exceptions, of course. parents would be allowed to track their children and the bill would not apply to police. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> well, our cool weather pattern continued today but that's the last of it because we

have some warmer weather. significantly warmer weather coming in over the weekend, the last weekend of summer. tracking some showers also before the weekend is over. and a dry stretch perhaps after that. so in some places we'll need that rain that might be coming. we have clouds in some of the area and sunshine in others. 71 degrees. that east wind has helped keep the temperature down during the day today. and it becomes a south wind tomorrow and a southwest wind on sunday. it's all about the wind direction. that's one of the most important things in weather forecasting. right now we have temperatures in the 60s across much of the area. only 66 in quakertown, 65 in doylestown and in trenton, 66 in mt. holly and cherry hill and washington township. that is cool for this time of the day at this time of the year, the average high is 77. 63 in ricetown.

there are more clouds there. 66 atlantic city airport and on the boardwalk. not going to be that cool tomorrow. in addition to the cool weather we have wind that's coming right in off the ocean as you can see. that east wind keeping the temperature down, bringing some moisture in as well. but once the wind shifts, and starts coming in out of the west, look what's coming our way. 87 in nashville. middle of the country. 90s. we're not going to get to 09 degre degrees but there's a piece of that warm air going to be coming here sunday. you can see some of the clouds, especially in burlington and ocean county. really, no rain anywhere around until you get down to salisbury, maryland. the showers that are going to be affecting us later in the weekend, they're still way, way up there in wisconsin and minnesota. our futurecast shows us one or two little blips coming in off

the ocean perhaps, later tonight or into tomorrow morning. isolated showers. some clouds coming up tomorrow afternoon. so it's not going to be a picture perfect day. it will be warmer than today, that's for sure. as we go into tomorrow night, could be another couple of isolated showers. the main thing is sunday, look at 1:00. sunshine. it will be in the 80s by then and the showers are a long way away, back to the west. it's going to take a while for the showers to get here. there's 8:00 sunday night and it's still getting to reading and allentown and may get into the i-95 corridor generally after 7:00 at night. on sunday. and not everybody is going to get rain out of that. once that goes through, we may get that a dry pattern here. for temple, looks dry. looks on the warmer side. decent for football weather, not especially humid either.
